A Primer on Naturally Occuring Radioactivity
On Wednesday, August 18, 2010, in Candor, NY - Jeff Leavey gave the presentation - A Primer on Naturally Occurring Radioactivity.
This presentation discussed the basics of radiation and radioactive materials associated with the well drilling process. By understanding the radioactive world we live in, the health effects and risks from naturally occurring and man-made radiation sources can be brought into perspective. The presentation reviewed what radiation is, where it comes from and how it relates to well drilling. The presentation also discussed radon: where it comes from, how to monitor, and how to reduce radon levels.
Jeff Leavey currently serves as the Radiation Safety Officer for Cornell University, and is a Certified Health Physicist with 30 years of experience in the field of radiation safety.
